A cautionary fairy tale wrapped up in the trappings of our modern world, David Robert Mitchell's film is an impactful piece of horror cinema.

Starting out with a great concept, the film analyzes the relationship between sex and the horror genre. In the world of It Follows, sex is what will kill you but it is also what will save you. It is only through having sex that one can pass the titular 'it' along and hope to be rid of it.

Where the film really earns its reputation is in its setpieces. As the main characters attempt to find ways to either escape or defeat 'it', they have several far-too-close-for-comfort encounters. Sequences such as the showdowns at the beach house or the pool are thrillingly constructed, mixing elements of suspense, humor, and action to create showstopping setpieces.

These moments serve as wonderful pay-offs to the suspenseful build-ups throughout the film.
