10 Best Horror Films Of The 2010s (So Far)
2. Get Out
Believe the acclaim and buy into the hype, this Oscar-nominated horror film deserves each and every word of praise.
Jordan Peele may have previously been a familiar name to fans of his Key & Peele series on Comedy Central but he became a household name with the release of this debut feature film. Whereas his previous roles had all showcased the actor/director's unique sense of humor, Get Out proved that he was so much more than that.
It is a striking film about the role racism plays in our modern society, while also acting as Peele's personal rebuttal of the horror genre's prior treatment of African American males. Rather than playing into the standard archetypes, the characters in Get Out are intelligent, skeptical, and constantly on the lookout for trouble because they are aware of these stereotypes.
It is an inspired, intellectual approach to horror but the film also clearly cherishes the chance to show off the goods. As the true history of the Armitage family is revealed, Peele delivers some full-throttle body horror and relishes the chance to show his protagonist finally getting out and fighting back.
Also not to be forgotten is the film's inspired use of comedy in creating one of the absolute best side characters of all time: TSA Agent Rod.
