10 Best Horror Movie Crossovers

9. Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man (1943)

King Kong Vs Godzilla
Universal Pictures

The original horror crossover is beautifully shot and orchestrally scored, with some great special effects for its time, in particular, Larry Talbot’s transformation into the Wolf Man. The film is split into two locations, first in the UK, and then travelling to Vasaria in Eastern Europe.

Four years after the events of The Wolf Man and The Ghost of Frankenstein, the story sees graverobbers releasing the Wolf Man, who goes to seek out Dr Frankenstein to ask for his help to break his curse. Finding the doctor is now dead, he releases the monster with the hope that he can help.

The story is actually quite a good crossover, as it gives each character a good reason to interact, rather than many others that just feel like an excuse to put two franchises together to see what happens.

The Wolf Man and Frankenstein’s monster are forced into violence by the reaction towards them of the people they meet. Doctor Mannering, who originally tries to help the Wolf Man, finds his curiosity of Frankenstein’s monster too much to help the townsfolk destroy him and his actions help both monsters escape.

The film features Dr Frankenstein’s daughter Elsa who helps Dr Mannering and is the catalyst for the final fight between the monsters before they are swept away by the burst dam.
