7. Leatherface - The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

In Tobe Hooper's slasher, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, five young adults stumble upon a house in the middle of nowhere, only to discover it's populated by a family of cannibals. As terrifying as these savages are, they pale compared to the sheer terror of the main villain, Jedidiah Sawyer, AKA Leatherface.

Even though Leatherface has one of the most iconic masks, it's actually quite uncreative. It's a shapeless, crummy, white face-covering, filled with asymmetrical stitches and dirt.

But it's not the mask itself that's terrifying - it's the implication of the mask. After the Sawyer family kill their victims, Leatherface carves off their faces and fashions them into masks for him to wear. Seeing him wearing the face-covering of a man, a girl, or an elderly woman may seem silly at first but it demonstrates what happens to any person who crosses the deranged brute's path.

Probably the best example to highlight how terrifying Leatherface's mask can be occurs in the reboot when the chainsaw-wielding maniac turns to face the heroine, Erin, revealing his facial garb is made from her boyfriend's face.
