10 Best Horror Movie Monsters NOBODY Talks About
5. Judas Breed - Mimic
It was inevitable that Guillermo del Toro would pop up on a list about movie monsters. Some of his most famous creations, such as The Pale Man, The Amphibian Man and anything from Hellboy are frequently discussed thanks to their ingenious designs, creative practical effects and awesome power. Still, one creation that's often overlooked is the Judas Breed from his second feature, Mimic.
Those with a fear of creepy crawlies might want to look away, as the Judas Breed are a giant cockroach-like species who terrorise the underground of New York City. They stand on two legs, have wings that can be made to look like human clothing, and powerful jaws that can take you out with little effort.
Part of what makes The Judas Breed so interesting is their (obvious) ability to mimic humanity, meaning that they could be walking amongst us right now, and we'd be none the wiser. However, once in their true form, the creatures are a perfect amalgamation of epic effects and quintessential creativity from del Toro.
In order to survive, thrive and multiply, the Judas Breed adapt to their surroundings and hunt their prey in plain sight, which is utterly terrifying. Still, there is a believability to the ridiculous creatures, as insects adapting to human behaviour feels like a natural biological evolution, even if they were genetically engineered.
