10 Best Horror Movie Monsters NOBODY Talks About
4. Possum Puppet - Possum
Possum is a profound horror movie, as the fearful moments reflect the inner turmoil of its protagonist, leading to a film that explores pain and trauma through tension and suspense. Nowhere is this better exemplified than in the titular creature, which will no doubt haunt your dreams after you've watched the flick.
The monster is a puppet created by lead character Philip. This disgraced puppeteer returns to his childhood home and finds himself constantly stalked by his creation, acting as a symbolic representation of his trauma and instability. Every time he tries to destroy Possum, it comes back, laying beside him and haunting his every waking breath.
Of course, outside of all the metaphorical storytelling that makes this creature compelling, the design itself is enough to deserve more attention. The uncanny face of Possum is horrendous, as it appears so human, making it seem alive, yet its lack of emotion and pale skin throws all semblance of humanity by the wayside.
Plus, it combines this horribly uncomfortable face with spider legs, giving it a perfect blend of the uncanny valley and arachnophobia. Either one of those aspects are bad enough on their own, but combining the two turns the puppet into a genuine terror.
