10 Best Horror Movie Monsters NOBODY Talks About

3. Cropsy - The Burning

Cropsy is a perfect example of a human character who acts like a monster in his life and subsequently turns into one in spirit and body.

This character was the main antagonist of the awesome slasher flick The Burning from 1981. Before his time as a killer, he was an alcoholic and implied paedophilic caretaker of a summer camp, but after a botched prank, he ended up burned beyond recognition. In response, he took up a pair of garden shears and sought about getting revenge on the youngsters of Camp Blackfoot.

Although this monster certainly seems derivative of his contemporaries - such as Freddy Krueger - he was out and about a whole three years before the release of A Nightmare on Elm Street. While the summer camp concept certainly wasn't too unique, his killer garden shears, grotesque appearance and absolute barbarity made him easily memorable.

This character also has a lot of history behind him, as he went on to become a major inspiration for the Scissorman in the Clock Tower video game series. He was also inspired by the real-life urban legend of Cropsey, a hook-handed escaped mental patient parents used as a Bogeyman myth to keep their children in line.

Despite all of this history, inspiration and lore, you very rarely hear his name in any discussions about the best horror movie villains/monsters.
