Contrary to what Disney films like Aladdin would have you believe, the mythological Genie isn't as sweet and happy-go-lucky as you might think. The malevolent spirits attained their status for being treacherous and devilish, as they tricked humans and often punished them for greed, sins and past transgressions. One film that fully explores this idea is the criminally underrated Wishmaster.

The series tells the tale of the downright evil Djinn - otherwise known as The Wishmaster - as he seeks out human subjects to torture and manipulate in an effort to free his kind and attain dominance over the world. Robin Williams might have had some trouble making this Genie quite so likeable.

Aside from his absolutely badass design, this monster has such an excellent array of powers, thanks to his ability to grant ironic wishes and additional skills such as soul absorption, shapeshifting and immortality. It's hard to imagine anyone being able to best this beast, which is part of what makes him so frightening.

The character's only downside is the fact that his powers can only exist with mortal intervention. Without being given a wish from a human, his powers cannot manifest, which is probably for the best, as he would wreak absolute havoc if given the ability to act of his own accord.
