7. Enid Baines - Censor

The Witch Anya Taylor Joy

The first directorial effort from Prano Bailey-Bond, Censor is a 2021 horror set in the world of... censorship. Who could have seen that coming?

Enid Baines, played by The Wonder's Niamh Algar, is a woman who works for the BBFC at the height of the video nasty craze. After a film she failed to ban is blamed for a real-life murder, Enid's life takes a turn for the worse.

A serious turn for the worse.

Her fall from grace leads to several clues about the disappearance of her sister several years earlier. On her journey to discover her whereabouts, Enid "accidentally" kills several people before finding the woman she believes is her sister.

Spoiler alert, she's not. She's just an actor with a striking resemblance.

Censor plays around with the idea of fantasy, implying that a lot of Enid's actions are driven by her warped view of reality. Pinning down the exact moment she goes evil is tough, but we've gone for the scene where she hits a seemingly innocent man with an axe.

Yep, sounds pretty evil alright.

With plenty of twists and turns, Censor is not something to watch if you're feeling particularly fragile.
