10 Best Horror Movie Scenes Where Good Characters Turned Evil
6. Maud - St. Maud
The excellent St. Maud from 2019 stars Morfydd Clark as the eponymous Maud, a palliative care nurse and Roman Catholic convert with a sketchy past.
Maud is tasked with taking care of Amanda, an atheist dying of cancer. Upon realising that there is no way of saving her charge's body, the nurse resolves to save her soul instead.
Maud's delusions of grandeur get seriously out of hand as the film goes on. She becomes increasingly frustrated at Amanda mocking her faith, even hitting her at one point.
Things really boil over when the patient tells her nurse that she faked a moment of religious clarity. Having been pushed to the edge, Maud takes the very un-Christian step of stabbing the dying woman to death.
St. Maud acts as a warning about the dangers of over-reliance on faith. Maud pins all of her hopes on her religion. When it is questioned, she can't handle it, and takes her frustrations out on the woman she was supposed to care for.
There's a lot to take away from this film, even if it is the worst instructional video for nurses of all time.
