10 Best Horror Movies Of 2023 (So Far)

9. Romancham

Evil Dead Rise
Times of India

Romancham is unique to this list in two ways; it's the only out-and-out horror comedy and it's the only film entirely in the Malayalam language.

Malayalam cinema has been on the rise in recent years, as has the entirety of the Indian industry. This film, the title of which translates to "Goosebumps", is strong proof of that.

The movie is based on supposed real life events that took place in Bangalore in 2007. A group of friends attempt to use a Ouija board to get in touch with a spirit, but things do not go as planned.

Of course they don't, this is a movie. It would be no fun if everything went swimmingly.

The film did extremely well amongst the Indian press, with several outlets praising its grounded humour and strong cast of funny characters.

Romancham isn't currently available to stream via conventional methods in the UK or the US, but that could well change if the proposed sequel is also a success. However, if you're really interested in seeking this film out and you've been on the Internet for longer than five minutes, then you'll probably be able to find it somewhere.
