10 Best Horror Movies Of The Decade
3. Hereditary (2018)
Film studio A24 has burst onto the scene this decade with some of the finest measured horror movies to have ever hit our screens. From It Comes At Night to The Blackcoat's Daughter, from Greenroom to The Killing of a Sacred Deer, and from The Monster to Climax, there's been a plethora of slow-burn movies with intensely disturbing plots boiling away under the surface of the studio - but none have quite reached the heady heights of Ari Aster's titles.
Bringing the A24 magic hurtling to the mainstream, Aster's Hereditary made waves for its long-form, calculated, understated way of telling a story, leaving as much narrative information in the background as it was delivering in the fore. When the matriarch of the Graham family dies, a strange, inescapable family history begins to come to light, with a powerhouse Toni Collette performance revealing the disturbing truth at the fringes of her inheritance.
Hereditary isn't the first beautiful horror movie to exist by a long shot, but its influence and popularity is unignorable - and for good reason. Hail Paimon!
