8. Ghosts Of Mars (2001)

John Carpenter is synonymous with horror, and while Ghosts of Mars isn't held in high regard like Halloween or The Thing, it has developed a loyal cult following in the years since its release. Set in the 22nd century (and in a strange parallel to Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13), police offers and a convicted criminal have to do battle against mining colony residents who are possessed by the ghosts of Mars' old inhabitants.

An eclectic cast - including Natasha Henstridge, Jason Statham, and Ice Cube - bring their all, but Carpenter has been left bemoaning critics in the years since who seemingly didn't get the film's satire. While many viewed Ghosts of Mars as a straight-up horror, Carpenter himself was adamant that the film is as much a parody and satire as it is a blood-soaked adventure. Only some commentators saw through the nonsense and managed to work this out. Others however are still unconvinced, including one person who was in the movie. Ice Cube has talked openly about how much he regrets being in the film.

If a camp, funny, and tongue-in-cheek sci-fi horror is what you want, then Ghosts of Mars ticks every box.
