10 Best Horror Movies Under 90 Minutes
8. Trick ‘R Treat (2008)
Few movies capture the spirit and atmosphere of the Halloween season like Trick ‘R Treat (the 2008 one, not the Ozzy Osbourne heavy metal horror from the 80’s). Writer-Director Michael Dougherty’s passion project follows an anthology of four stories that take place concurrently during one fateful All Hallow’s Eve. The common thread that links all four tales of terror is the presence of Sam; a mysterious trick or treater wearing orange onesie pyjamas and a burlap sack over his head, who sometimes acts as a passive observer, other times a functional element of the chaos.
The overall conceit of the film is that Sam appears whenever a member of the small town in which the movie is set breaks Halloween tradition, and doles out a savage punishment. The deceptively well thought out script pays loving tribute to Halloween lore and heritage of all kinds, both old and modern, through a series of deliciously diabolic chronicles, all tightly woven into its brilliantly brief 82 minute time span.
