2. What We Do In The Shadows (2014)

This comedic mockumentary takes a peek into the lives of four vampiric roommates who share a flat in suburban New Zealand. From the minds of New Zealand superstars Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, this suckerpunch horror comedy proves that there is still some blood to be drained from the veins of the vampire subgenre.

The film follows in the tradition of darkly funny New Zealand horror movies like Braindead and Bad Taste, and provides a unique, comedic take on the modern world as the four centuries-old bloodsuckers wind up befriending a meek computer analyst who unwillingly becomes their object of affection. It’s a truly weird take on the vampire story, but at a nice 86 minutes, What We Do in the Shadows is an excellent choice if you want your quick fix of outlandish scares.
