4. The Signal (David Bruckner, Dan Bush, Jacob Gentry 2007)
A transmission emits from every radio, cell phone and TV which turns people into homicidal maniacs. The concept ensures that almost every person in the Western world can be effected by it. If they aren't, then someone around them will be. The film is told from three different perspectives in three different parts (called Transmissions). Romance and relationships play a major theme throughout the stories. The main story follows Mya (Anessa Ramsey) who is planning to leave her husband Lewis (AJ Bowen) for her lover Ben (Justin Welborn) just as the signals begin. The filmmakers definitely had romance in their mind when they made the film. They use tropes from romances in order for the characters to survive, like Mya listening to a mixed CD made by Ben to avoid hearing the transmission. Think of it as a romantic comedy with a lot of blunt force trauma.
