It's impossible to overstate just how genius the marketing campaign around 2008's Cloverfield was, with the movie going viral before we all knew what going viral even was. Basically, that marketing campaign refused to give you any significant plot points, instead dropping little clues and teases that caused online sleuths to come up with all kinds of theories as to what Cloverfield was actually about.

With an extreme amount of buzz surrounding it, Cloverfield of course ended up being a found-footage movie that plays out across a New York that's been invaded by eerie creatures, with the huge 'Clover' doing the most damage. Are these monsters aliens? Are they from the sea? Are they from the Earth's core? In the movie, no answers are actually given, adding further to the otherworldly terror brought by these beasts - though the Cloverfield/Kishin manga tie-in would reveal the creatures did indeed come from the sea.

As for Marlena, she's one of our key protagonists here, attempting to stay alive in New York as this unknown threat causes chaos. While she was bitten by one of the smaller monsters, Marlena initially seems fine. That is, until, in a military hospital, she blurts out "I don't feel so good" as blood teams from her nose and eyes.

Within seconds, Marlena - now behind a curtain - literally explodes into a mess of blood 'n' bits.
