10 Best Jared Leto Performances

2. Mr. Nobody

Mr Nobody Jared Leto
Magnolia Pictures

Mr. Nobody can be seen as a film about choice and the effect that those choices can make on a lifetime. Leto plays Nemo Nobody, the last mortal man on Earth at 116 years old. He also plays younger versions of himself in the film.

It does not follow a linear progression and Leto spoke about the difficulty he had in trying to keep everything straight in his head. He saw the role as, at the time, the greatest challenge to his career. He felt that intertwining the different lifetimes and making each portrayal realistic was his main goal.

The film delivered, even though it was something of a sleeper hit. Various critics described the film as one that would make the viewer appreciate the life that they had to live. It was described a film without any filler and that each scene is like a cinematic experience in itself.

Much of the praise for Leto lauded his ability to make the choices of Nemo Nobody both believable and relevant. Each direction that his life takes seems to make perfect sense. Leto was cast for his transformative ability, one that would of course return again and again in his career as it goes on.

A truly excellent, contemplative entry in Leto's catalogue.
