10 Best Killer Doll Movies

7) Puppet Master (1989)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soyYhEDDzv4 Yes - yet more traumatising killer doll antics for my poor young 12 year old head back in the day. Shown on Sky Movies, I was babysitting my niece at the time - she was 2 years old and tucked up in bed. Her toys and dolls were strewn over the living room whilst I was watching this damn film. Cue me standing on the sofa too scared to sit down among all the potential killer toys, but anyway... Andre Toulon - a puppet maker who has the ability to animate objects, kills himself during World War 2 rather than be captured by the Nazis. His secret is in the grave for 50 years until a group of psychics are called to a location and the reanimated puppets knock them off one by one in tremendously grisly fashion. Like dolls, the puppets are portrayed using stop motion animation and some puppeteering. They are a horrible freaky lot - from the nasty little pr**k who spits up leeches to the big brute with the huge fists and a scary drill-type thing on his head. There are some nifty kill scenes that may make you squirm. Straight to video cheese in its trashiest form, the acting is terrible and it is the puppets who are the stars of the show. Goofy, but I cannot deny the fact that it's a heck of a lot of fun.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
