10 Best Live-Action Batman Characters (Who Aren't The Dark Knight)

7. James Gordon - The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005-2012)

It can be argued that Nolan€™s trilogy is as much about Bruce Wayne as it is about James Gordon€™s journey through the ranks of Gotham€™s corrupt police department. Unlike Pat Hingle€™s more bumbling and hardly-important take on the character between 1989 and 1997, Gary Oldman is given the opportunity to flesh Gordon out into an actual human being. In a city where men dress up as bats, clowns and scarecrows, ninjas drop by on occasion and there€™s always a few too many bomb threats, Gordon keeps the affairs a bit more grounded. While he€™s prone to making some dubious decisions, like sending his entire police force into a single, dangerous area, and his life beyond his relationship with Batman is woefully unexplored, Oldman€™s Gordon is one of the best characters running around Gotham, simply trying to do the right thing the right way. In a series full of vigilante cynicism and comic book escapades, it€™s nice to have a character retain as much as they can of actual humanity, even if he doesn€™t always get a win.
