Avengers Assemble was epic film making from start to finish, but that didn't stop Joss Whedon from including a cameo of monumental proportions after Loki had finally been defeated and the credits had finished rolling. Revealed as the real power behind Loki's alien army, the mad titan Thanos didn't utter a single word in his cameo, but comic book fans instantly knew that his appearance would mark a pivotal moment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, Thanos is a major player who has almost destroyed Earths heroes numerous times in his pursuit of Death, an actual figure within the Marvel Universe. The most memorable story line to feature Thanos was The Infinity Gauntlet, where the titan collected six Infinity Gems that grant the wielder omnipotent power. In the blink of an eye, Thanos used his new abilities to destroy half of the universe's population, all just to impress the character Death. A subtle reference to this actually features in the Avengers Assemble cameo when Thanos smiles at the screen upon hearing the word 'death'. Since then, both Thanos and the Infinity Gems have taken on a larger role in Guardians Of The Galaxy, but the grand villain is still yet to take center stage. Fortunately, voice actor Josh Brolin has confirmed that he has signed up for more films in the future and it's likely that Avengers 3 will culminate in an epic showdown involving Thanos and the six Infinity Gems. But remember, it all started with just one little cameo at the end of Avengers Assemble...
