10 Best MCU Movie Endings (So Far)
4. Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 2
There aren't many sequels in the MCU that lived up to the expectations set by the first. Iron Man 2, Thor: The Dark World, and Age of Ultron were all disappointing, however Guardians Vol 2 was simply excellent. It continued everything that made the first movie so special, with even more heart and emotion than before.
Focusing on Peter Quill's relationship with his father for much of the story, it was always going to be emotional, but the ending to James Gunn's second MCU outing is one of the most heart-breaking tear-jerkers in the entire franchise.
After the conclusion of the battle with Ego, with Quill's father well and truly beaten, his 'daddy' sacrificed himself to get Star Lord to safety. It's tough to watch, as Quill is forced to witness Yondu suffocate in space before his very eyes, yet from there, somehow, James Gunn managed to turn it into something wonderfully heart-warming.
Quill finally realised he didn't miss out on a father-son relationship at all, Groot finally let Drax hold him, and the Ravagers returned to give Yondu a true send-off, all to the tune of Father and Son by Cat Stevens. It's impossible to get through the final ten minutes without shedding a tear.
