A neat and tidy message delivery system, designed to securely deliver Ethan's mission details, these devices have come in the form of tapes, sunglasses, phone booths and disposable cameras.
An element lifted directly from the original TV series, the devices announce the iconic line 'your mission, should you choose to accept it...', followed by the mission details and a further announcement that they will self-destruct in five seconds, after which a puff of smoke emits from the object and all evidence of the message's existence is gone.
Though not strictly a gadget in the practical sense, these devices and their messages have made their stamp on cinema's history and separated Mission: Impossible from other blockbuster spy franchises, such as Bourne and Bond.
