10 Best Movie Deaths Of 2019

7. Christian (Midsommar)

Midsommar is easily one of the most unsettling movies of the year, with writer-director Ari Aster drawing in viewers with an enchanting, serene atmosphere, before twisting the knife in a deeply disturbing fashion on multiple occasions.

One especially brutal death goes to Simon, who is turned into a blood eagle (he has his back cut open and his insides pulled out, which are then shaped into wings). But since this takes place entirely offscreen, it doesn't qualify for this list, which brings us to Christian, who also suffers an unimaginably horrific fate.

Now, Christian doesn't exactly treat girlfriend Dani with a huge amount of love and respect, but still, it's hard to say if he deserved the grisly death she bestowed upon him. Paralyzed, stuffed into a disembowelled bear and burned alive inside a wooden temple, Christian is utterly helpless to resist, and can only watch in terror as the fire starts to engulf his surroundings.

The anguished yells of the cultists amplify the horror of the scene even further, and Dani's satisfied smile at her boyfriend's fiery death was one hell of a sickening blow to end the movie on.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
