The Matrix sequels were an undeniably disappointing endeavour, but most fans will at least admit that there was enormous promise contained within the two underwhelming movies.

In 2016, editor Jerick released The Matrix Revolutions Decoded, an ambitious attempt to streamline the rather messy and convoluted nature of the sequels.

Combining both Reloaded and Revolutions into a single movie while also incorporating sequences from the spin-off The Animatrix and video game Enter The Matrix, Jerick's new version clocks in at a svelte 135 minutes, and is in many ways a far more satisfying sit than either individual film.

Ditching the excess exposition and bloated subplots (such as most of the Zion warbling and the the divisive Bane plot), Decoded snappily fleets from set-piece to set-piece where possible, effectively delivering a "greatest hits" of the two films.

There are a few moments where the amateur editing becomes apparent, but given the constraints of the material Jerick was working with, it's an extremely admirable effort indeed.
