4. Captain America vs. The Winter Soldier: Part 1 - Captain America: The Winter Soldier
There are so many tremendous action sequences in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, that it's hard to pick just one, but the first showdown between Cap (Chris Evans) and his former buddy Bucky aka The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) mid-way through the film is a masterfully-constructed and technically superb set-piece. The awesome moments are numerous: the fight begins with Cap, Natasha (Scarlett Johansson) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie) trying to shake off the Winter Soldier as he stands atop their car, smashing it to pieces. Once he tears the steering wheel off, Cap improvises an exit using one of the car doors, before he is blown into a bus via a grenade launcher. The fight continues as the Winter Soldier and his cronies pursue the trio, who each get their own awesome moments. The greatest part, however, comes at the end of the battle, as the Winter Soldier is about to blow Natasha to pieces, and Cap returns for a one-on-one fight, using shields and knives as weapons. It makes it clear that Cap's foe can easily match him pound for pound, and just then, the shocking reveal happens (to anyone who hasn't read the comics anyway): the Winter Soldier's mask falls off, and Steve is shocked to see that it's Bucky, who appears to have no idea of his own identity. It may seem more simplistic than the epic finale of the movie, but the superb fight choreography and excellent direction make this the best action scene in the film.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
