10 Best Movie Posters Of 2017
7. Alien: Covenant
Oh, how optimistic we all were about this one. While 2012's Prometheus had proved a highly divisive return to the Alien franchise for original director Ridley Scott, the promise that this follow-up would see the return of the pivotal Xenomorph (with its name back in the title, no less) left fans of the series with very high hopes.
Sadly, the film itself proved a big disappointment for many. While it made fine use of Michael Fassbender in the dual roles of androids David and Walter (that flute scene notwithstanding), it significantly rewrote Alien lore, took some rather odd narrative turns, and felt too much of a by-the-numbers shocker in its more horrific sequences. After largely negative reviews and middling box office, it looks likely to have killed off the Alien series for the time being.
Still, while the film itself may have fallen short, it did serve up some very handsome marketing materials, not least this dazzling poster which merges HR Giger's iconic creature designs with Auguste Rodin's 1917 sculpture The Gates of Hell.
