10 Best Movie Sequels (Not Directed By The Original Filmmaker)

3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The Color Of Money Tom Cruise
Marvel Studios

At the time of its release back in 2014, Captain America: The Winder Soldier cemented itself as arguably the very best entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at that point in time.

The MCU is a shared cinematic realm famed for delivering quality film after quality film, and The Winder Soldier is still revered as being in the elite upper echelon of these pictures. Part superhero movie, part political thriller, this second Captain America effort is a thing of beauty when it comes to it delicate story beats - with Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes being revealed to not be quite as dead as we were to believe in Captain America: The First Avenger.

For The First Avenger, it was The Rocketeer's Joe Johnston directing, whereas Captain America: The Winter Soldier saw the Community duo of Anthony and Joe Russo taking over directorial duties - and the Russo brothers completely knocked it out of the park with this sequel offering.

Such a great job did the Russos do on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, they've gone on to become a pivotal part of the grander MCU picture - returning to helm Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame for Marvel Studios and Disney.
