10 Best Movie Villains Played By Comedians

1. Robin Williams - One Hour Photo

Penguin Batman Returns
Fox Searchlight

The late great Robin Williams is an icon who will never be replaced. His career was sublime, as he garnered a reputation for being one of the funniest men on earth and even managed to win an Oscar for his performance in Good Will Hunting. He was a once in a lifetime talent, but it's still surprising to know that he played such a terrifying character.

Watching 'One Hour Photo' is like someone scraping knives onto a plate whilst chewing too loudly and dragging their nails down a chalkboard. It's a horrifying exploration of obsession, paranoia and loneliness that is all underpinned by Williams' breathtaking performance.

The movie follows Seymour 'Sy' Parrish, a retail store photo developer who forms an unhealthy attachment to a family who frequents the shop. As the film continues, his desire to be a part of their lives grows creepier and more dangerous.

While Sy is a sympathetic villain thanks to his evident loneliness and the charm of Williams, he's still terrifying, as it's clear he lacks any sense of boundary or impulse control. Williams captures this perfectly, as his energy is so quiet and slow, making him seem methodical and almost existing outside the boundaries of typical human behaviour.

It's a movie that's definitely worth your time, even if only for the legendary comedian.
