10 Best Movie Villains Played By Comedians
8. Sacha Baron Cohen - Alice Through The Looking Glass
Bringing Sacha Baron Cohen into the bombastic and erratic world of Alice in Wonderland made perfect sense. In fact, it was almost surprising that he wasn't a part of the star-studded cast of the original film, as his notorious scenery-chewing performances would be a perfect fit for the loud and overly stylised world. Still, this was rectified in the sequel 'Alice Through The Looking Glass', which gave him a great chance to shine as a villain.
After "borrowing" the Chronosphere to travel back in time and help the Mad Hatter, Alice accidentally becomes the target of Time, a magical being who searches to get it back. Part of what makes the role work so well is that he's not inherently evil, rather a man who has been wronged and seeks to right it. He becomes a secondary antagonist behind The Red Queen, but this doesn't take away from Cohen's fun performance.
As you'd expect from Cohen, he plays the role with a great irreverence that makes him quite charming, despite being a hurdle for the protagonist. His typical bumbling energy and erratic line-delivery make him feel somewhat unpredictable. This is accented by his gloriously over-the-top costume and mechanical parts, making time look like a perfect hybrid of humanity and archaic technology.
It's by no means a groundbreaking movie or performance, but it's quickly entertaining and memorable.
