10 Best Movies Actors Did After The Lord Of The Rings
3. Andy Serkis - Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (2011)
Andy Serkis was monumental in changing the course of motion capture in film and TV. His portrayal as Gollum in the Lord of The Rings films was never intended to be captured in the way it ultimately was. Originally he was only hired as the voice artist but would stand in on set to give other actors someone to work off. His energised and expressive mannerism as Gollum encouraged Peter Jackson to capture his movements and facial expression to be used in the digital model that would become his magnum opus.
Serkis has gone on to have one of the most successful careers of any of the LOTR cast, ranking 10th on the list of highest grossing actors of all time. And it's no surprise, his ability to embody non-human characters has made him highly sort after in an industry driven by CGI.
Although he's appeared in a number of live action roles since his time as Gollum, it's his work as digitalised characters that are the most impressive. Despite not seeing any of the actors face, the amount of human emotion Serkis was able to impart on his character of Caesar in the Planet of The Apes franchise was impressive.
For a movie that centres around the relationship between a human and chimpanzee we got some pretty emotional moments.
