10 Best Movies To Mix Animation With Live Action

7. The Three Caballeros

Three CaballerosRKO Radio PicturesThe Three Caballeros, released in 1944, was Disney's seventh feature film and its first to combine live-action with animation. The film is a connection of various segments sewn together by Donald Duck receiving birthday presents from his friends in Latin America. Donald Duck is one of the few core members of Mickey's crew to actually appear in his own theatrical release. For its time, The Three Caballeros was pretty technologically advanced. So much so, in fact, many critics did not like it, claiming it had more flash than substance. The film features a number of famous Latin American stars who interact with their animated counterparts. The film even featured Donald Duck getting a kiss from Brazilian entertainer Aurora Miranda. This was, unsurprisingly for the time, met with a deluge of critical outrage, who chastised its inappropriate sexual dynamic between a real woman and a cartoon duck.
