5. Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
If you want to watch a film that genuinely comes the closest any production ever has to feeling like a video game or graphic novel come to life, then look no further than Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. This adaptation from Edgar Wright of the Bryan Lee O'Malley graphic novel series of the same name is an utterly witty and action-packed movie that will have you quickly invested.
The story tells of the titular Scott Pilgrim as he meets the girl of his dreams Ramona Flowers. To date her he must defeat her seven evil exes in combat, and thus the narrative follows his exploits as he works through his relationship, and battles these antagonists.
Edgar Wright certainly has a highly energetic filmmaking style that feels thoroughly thought-out and creative. He brings this to the max here as every moment on screen feels well-placed and there for a reason. The dialogue never lets up for a second, and the moment to moment action is superbly well crafted.
Aubrey Plaza plays a small, but memorable role, in this flick as Julie Powers - a cynical and abrasive character who berates Scott for his sinful ways. Very in keeping with the spirit the actor emits in Parks and Rec.
