10 Best Music Sequences In The Shrek Films
6. Alone Again (Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright)
As upbeat and hilarious as the Shrek films are, there are plenty of somber moments throughout the four films which are captured beautifully with perfect musical accompaniment.
After rescuing Fiona from the castle, Shrek overhears a conversation between Fiona and Donkey in which Fiona talks about her "ugly" ogre transformation whenever the sun goes down. Shrek misinterprets her self pity for a comment about his own physical appearance and he turns away broken hearted.
Shrek feels betrayed by Fiona, the woman he has grown to love, and in his morosity, brings Lord Farquaad to Fiona in order to obtain the deed for his swamp.
Believing that Donkey was talking about him behind his back, Shrek also shows Donkey the door and he is once again on his own.
What follows is a truly tragic montage of Fiona trying to put on a brave face as she gets ready for her wedding to Farquaad, Shrek alone in his swamp and Donkey mindlessly wandering the forest until he comes across an equally depressed Dragon who Donkey had made a connection with in the castle. Amongst all of this, Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah played beautifully by Rufus Wainwright sets the mood in the film's lowest moment.
