When Marvel fans sat down to watch Iron Man 3 and suddenly found themselves presented with the song "Blue (Da Ba De)" as the studio's logo flashed onto the screen during the opening titles, they probably thought they'd walked into the wrong movie. Either that, or producer Kevin Fiege had been replaced by an insane '90s-obsessed robot. Alas, the odd song choice turned out to be there entirely on purpose, as a means to setting the scene. "Blue (Da Be De)" might well be the worst song ever written, but there was no denying that when this thing kicked in it brought a real sense of nostalgia back (apt, too, given that the opening moments of Iron Man 3 are set in 1999 and the song was absolutely massive back then). Did Marvel fans ever expect to see Tony Stark doing his thing to this song? Perhaps not, but who cares? Love it or loathe it, you can't say you forget about this bit.
