9. "Dancing In The Dark" - Place Beyond The Pines
An incredibly brief moment, but a keeper nonetheless. And it involves a dog, so you absolutely can't argue with it. This strange and arguably epic crime "saga" probably wasn't the movie that people were expecting when they walked into theatres to watch what looked like it might be Drive: Part II, given that Ryan Gosling looked to be almost parody-like in his broodiness, and also there was a bike in the trailer. Still, The Place Beyond The Pines is a interesting movie that will surely invite discussion for years to come. On the surface, it's a rather grim and ultimately sombre experience, and there aren't too many jokes to be found. That said, there's this very, very quick moment where bank robbers Ryan Gosling and Ben Mendelsohn dance to Bruce Springsteen's classic '80s anthem "Dancing In The Dark," whilst Gosling waves a dog about. Enough said, we think.
Note: The Place Beyond The Pines was technically made back in 2012, but it didn't get released in US theatres until March 29th 2013, so we're allowing it onto the list anyway.
