10 Best Musical Themes From Live-Action Marvel Movies

2. X2: X-Men United (2003) & X-Men: Days Of Future Past (2014)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLY-qLtBTuk Of all the composers to tackle the X-Men franchise, none were able to give the series as thrilling and pulse-pounding a theme as John Ottman did in X2: X-Men United. After his departure alongside Bryan Singer to work on Superman Returns, his theme was dropped from the series and any sense of musical cohesion across the films would only continue to be lost for over a decade. With Singer's directorial return to the series with X-Men: Days of Future Past marking the reinstallation of Ottman, fans of the X2 theme had their fingers crossed that Ottman would manage to sneak a reprisal of it into the film, however small. Fortunately, Ottman delivered it in full force during the opening and closing credits, having matured it enough to sound even better than it had been in X2. The usage of the theme in both films marks the only time the series has truly carried over a score and, hopefully, it won't be dropped yet again should Singer ultimately bow out of directing X-Men: Apocalypse and Ottman follow suit. As the best theme the series has ever had to offer, it's one that needs to continue to be the musical identity that the franchise so desperately needs.
