10 Best Non-Christmas Christmas Movies

6. Ghostbusters II (1989)

Die Hard
Columbia Pictures

Ghostbusters II is another movie people associate with Christmas due to the time-period the film was set in. Most of the main events happened during Christmas leading up to a New Years Eve climax, which is why the team can be seen wearing Santa hats throughout the movie.

At any given time during the film, one can see that it's Christmas in New York. Poinsettias, Christmas trees, and Santa caps abound throughout the streets of the city while the Ghostbusters run about finding and locking up poltergeists.

The overall story of the film involves the increased negative energy having a palpable effect on the ectoplasm collecting beneath the city. This negative energy caused the ghosts to go nuts, but it takes something important to reverse the danger: holiday cheer!

“Being miserable and treating other people like dirt is every New Yorkers’ God-given right.”

The Mayor's words may have been true, but it took the good will and holiday cheer of the people of New York to win the day and stop the end of the world. When it all came to a conclusion, the Ghostbusters were thrown into a Nativity with all the Christmas cheer and symbolism the holidays could possibly bring.
