10 Best Non-Christmas Christmas Movies

5. Edward Scissorhands (1990)

Die Hard
20th Century Fox

When you get right down to it, Edward Scissorhands is a modern retelling of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, but there is a lot more going on than a simple adaptation.

The film takes place in a bright and sunny place about as far from Christmas as you can get, but the story evolves into a Christmas setting as the movie progresses and it's all thanks to Edward's journey from the dark into the light.

Edward Scissorhands is an interesting inclusion for this list because it has the inevitable Halloweeny feel you get from a Tim Burton movie, but it was a Christmas release. It's a fantasy movie, with a little horror thrown in for good measure, but in that non-scary way Burton is an expert in achieving.

Ultimately, the whole crux of the film is that it was a story told by a grandmother to her young grandchildren as to why it always snows during Christmas. It hadn't when she was a little girl, but after Edward, the snow came each and every year. It's a beautiful story and one that is all about Christmas without actually being truly "about" Christmas.
