10 Best Opening Credits Sequences In Movie History

3. Deadpool

Deadpool did a lot of things right - for starters, it managed to redeem the merc-with-the-mouth from that one time when he didn't have a mouth - and it understood that to make the character work on-screen, it had to embrace his roots and go full-on balls-to-the-wall with its humour.

Luckily, those of us who had any doubts that this would be the case were silenced almost immediately, with the film's opening credits proving to be just as funny, irreverent and wacky as its comic-book counterpart has been from day one.

Weaving their way through an upcoming action sequence, Deadpool's opening credits poke fun at everyone from the producers to the director to the stars of the movie themselves, including 'God's Perfect Idiot' Ryan Reynolds and the 'Comic Relief' T.J. Miller. Not only was this wholly unique - seriously, we've never seen anything like this on-screen before - but it nailed the character's brand of humour in just a few short lines of text.

And that's why Deadpool was such a success. It was incredibly fresh, able to stand out like a beacon in the current crowd of comic-book movies, and it was uncompromising with its tone, allowing it to seep into every last area of the production - even something as minor as the credits. Well played, Mr. Pool.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
