10 Best Performances In Harry Potter
2. Gary Oldman - Sirius Black
Sirius Black was not an easy character to play. The portrayal of such a man required an actor who could come across as both frightening and fatherly at the same.
When Gary Oldman first appeared on screen in The Prisoner of Azkaban, he was instantly believable as an insane mass murderer. Even those who had read the books and knew the truth were struck by how frightening he was.
After leaving the Shrieking Shack, however, Oldman then fully embodied Sirius’s warmth. His line delivery with Radcliffe was wrought with pain and weariness, and he was totally believable as a man who had spent twelve years in prison for a crime he did not commit.
In The Order of the Phoenix, Oldman exemplified his talent yet again when Harry and Sirius were both at Grimmauld Place. The scene in which Sirius spoke to Harry beside the Black Family Tree was especially good.
Once again, it’s a shame such a performance wasn’t given more screen time. Despite only appearing in three movies for a limited amount of time, Oldman’s performance was one of the best of the series.
