10 Best Performances In Harry Potter

1. Alan Rickman - Severus Snape

Given how important Severus Snape was to Rowling’s story, it was vital that such a character was cast correctly.

Alan Rickman’s performance was perfect from beginning to end. His slow, monotonous delivery was always on point, and his condescending stares were equally captivating.

Though Snape is best known as a frightening teacher with a harsh bias towards his own house, Rickman also nailed the humorous side of his role. Indeed, the funniest scene in the whole series was Umbridge’s inspection of Snape’s class in The Order of the Phoenix.

Yet the best part of Rickman’s performance came in the second part of The Deathly Hallows. Specifically, the scene in which Harry delves into Snape’s memories – though much shorter than in the book – was one of the most emotive and significant moments in Harry’s journey, and Rickman’s performance during this section was outstanding.

It’s almost inevitable the Harry Potter books will be adapted again at some point in the future, and it’s fair to say that whoever is given the role of Severus Snape will never be able to top what Rickman did.
