Where does the line between psychological thriller end and the one for horror begin? The Killing of a Sacred Deer asks this question, but refuses to answer it, leaving its audience glued to the edge of their seat.

A successful surgeon and family man is forced to make an impossible choice when the sins of his past catch up to him. Will he choose? Or will the choice be made for him?

The unrelenting sense of dread pulsating at every second of the film acts almost like a psychological attack upon the viewer. Watching is a test of one's resolve, as it never lets up its oppressive tone for a single second. You will have questions, but at the same time will be too transfixed by its peculiarity to ask them.

Its narrative uses ambiguity, in regards to both story and character, in order to enhance the overall feeling of unease at the film's heart. The movie wants you to feel just as mentally and emotionally spent as its broken protagonist, and succeeds spectacularly in this.

Brilliant, bold, and brutal, The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a maddening masterpiece that's just as thought provoking as it is chilling.
