Marvin is a unique entry on this list for sure. He has a brain the size of a planet and has been programmed with Genuine People Personality but this has only left him with a complete and utter lack of job satisfaction. Despite his immense wealth of knowledge, he is often left to menial tasks (such as retrieving hitchhikers) that further compound his low self-esteem issues. He still manages to be endearing, however, and will occasionally offer quips and puns that keep him from becoming a total downer (for example, when told to freeze! he responds that hes a robot, not a refrigerator). Marvin looks like he might be really good CGI, but hes actually just a really well-costumed actor (Warwick Davis) with an equally amazing voice to match (Alan Rickman). Despite his generally negative attitude, the gang likes to have him around and in the end he manages to save all of their lives. In an interesting twist of fate, Marvin stops an entire army of advancing Vogons by making them just as depressed and hopeless as he is. Non-traditional? Maybe. Effective? Definitely.
Joe Sippy grew up in Chicago and now resides in Los Angeles. He enjoys corn dogs, rap music, and horror movies. On weekends you can find him in the ocean, surfing very poorly.
