7. Ebenezer Scrooge - The Muppet Christmas Carol
Has there ever been a more iconic face turn in fiction than that of Ebenezer Scrooge, the miserly, selfish, thoroughly detestable money-lender from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol?
The cantankerous git was played superbly by Michael Caine in The Muppet Christmas Carol - the authoritative adaptation of Dickens' novel, by the way - who brilliantly sells both Scrooge's ill-tempered nature and his cathartic final turnaround.
Of course, Scrooge is visited throughout the film by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come, with the latter revealing that if he continues on this misanthropic path, he's destined to die and be quickly forgotten.
Once he witnesses the sight of his own grave, Scrooge emotionally vows to change his ways, and upon returning to the present, surprises Bob Cratchit (Kermit) with not only a Christmas dinner, but also by paying off his mortgage and giving him a raise.
Thanks to Caine's sublimely affecting performance, it's an incredibly heart-warming change of character with an important lesson to boot.
