10 Best Sci-Fi Comedy Movies You Need To Watch

6. Sorry To Bother You

One of the most acerbic and unpredictable films of recent times, Sorry To Bother You is a true auteur piece. Directed by Boots Riley (of incendiary rap group The Coup), on the surface it’s an investigation of American race relations. A young black man gets a job in a call centre, and finds his sales figures skyrocketing when he affects a “white voice”.

As a hook it’s pretty great, and from watching a trailer you might not even realise it’s a sci fi movie, but at a certain point, things take a turn. Sorry To Bother You is a film best experienced knowing as little as possible, but suffice to say you wouldn’t guess the twist in a thousand tries.

Lakeith Stanfield, one of the most charismatic actors on the planet, takes the lead role and is ably supported by a great cast, including Tessa Thompson, cameos from Danny Glover and Terry Crews, and Armie Hammer cutting loose and having a whale of a time.

It defies categorisation and is combative and crazy enough to guarantee never making a splash in mainstream culture, but this is a cult feature with something to say and a unique way of saying it.
