10 Best Sci-Fi Films People Who Hate Sci-Fi Should Watch

4. The Fly

If we've learned anything from science fiction, it's that experimentation can and inevitably will go wrong. Sci-Fi logic follows that no matter how dangerous the outcome, experimentation must proceed. However, Jeff Goldblum's character Seth Brundle probably should have had second thoughts.

In the film The Fly, Brundle is experimenting with a teleportation machine but fails to check the device before putting it into use. While the teleportation device is technically a success, he discovers that his DNA has merged with a fly, making them one too.

While initially he still looks as he did before the accident, he slowly starts to change. In true horror movie fashion, he turns into a monster. At first, he seems excited to study the changes. The problem is that not only does he become less human, he also loses any sense humanity whatsoever.

David Cronenberg delivers on his trademark body horror style with this movie. Along with a brilliant performance by Jeff Goldblum, the film garnered acclaim for its story and practical and makeup effects.

The Fly is a perfect horror film for anyone who shies away from Sci-Fi. The film is grounded, but it still exposes the horrific potential of the unknown.
