10 Best Sci-Fi Films People Who Hate Sci-Fi Should Watch
3. Galaxy Quest
One of the best aspects of science fiction is its ability to make fun of itself. It doesn't have to take itself too seriously. That's precisely what Galaxy Quest does. The movie takes a look at the famous show Star Trek and asks the question, "What if an alien race saw the show and thought it was real?"
Needless to say, hilarity ensues.
Jason Nesmith, played by Tim Allen, and Gwen DiMarco, played by Sigourney Weaver, are stars of a show called Galaxy Quest. One day, Nesmith is visited by what he assumes are merely super fans of his canceled show. But he soon learns that they are aliens from another planet seeking he and his costars assistance. The alien race believes the TV show is real, and has come looking to enlist them in their struggle for survival.
What makes this movie a must-see is that it's a heartwarming yet hilarious love letter to Star Trek. So if making fun of Star Trek is more appealing than watching it, this may be the film for you.
