10 Best Sci-Fi War Films
2. Edge Of Tomorrow
Edge of Tomorrow is yet another example of just how inexplicably perfect Tom Cruise is for Sci-Fi.
Released in 2014, the film tells the story of a public relations officer forced into a landing operation against invading alien forces. He is killed, but finds himself in a time loop that sends him back to the day before the battle.
Think Groundhog Day with bloodthirsty aliens.
It's a solid Sci-Fi action adventure, and it panders perfectly to audiences' strange obsession with time-travel and time loops.
It was a commercial and critical success, and a sequel, cleverly titled Live Die Repeat and Repeat, is currently in development.
Edge of Tomorrow received praise for its subversion of traditional gender roles, with Emily Blunt's character Rita Vrataski teaching Cruise's character Cage combat techniques that may just save his life. Blunt's character is not only crucial to the entire plot of Edge of Tomorrow, but she is essentially holding the hand of the male lead as he stumbles blindly through the battlefield.
It's certainly something that we need to see more of on the big screen.
