10 Best Shia LaBeouf Film Performances

4. Lawless

Lawless was a surprisingly good true retelling of an infamous bootlegging family in the 1920s. The story follows the family as they try to continue their illegal moonshine business, even in the face of federal agents stopping at nothing to bring them down.

Lawless has many massive Hollywood names, such as Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Jason Clarke, Jessica Chastain, and Gary Oldman. Somehow through all of this talent Shia is the one that stands out in his performance of the young brother in the bootlegging family.

The first half of the movie has familiar notes from Shia, as his character is a bit irreverent and holds the film's comedic relief. With a quick turn of events, however, his character becomes one of the most emotionally turmoiled in the film.

The way that LaBeouf handles this transition is flawless, and it adds to the believability of how quickly things could go wrong when running illegal operations under the scrutiny of the law.

It is a rare skill for actors to be able to flip the entirety of a character within a film, and in Lawless Shia shows that he can do it with the best of them.
